Earthquake
If Indoors
Drop, Cover, and Hold On —
Get low, take cover under sturdy furniture, and hold on until shaking stops.
Stay away from windows, glass, mirrors, and unsecured objects that may fall.
Protect your head and neck with your arms if no shelter is available.
Do not run outside during shaking — most injuries occur from falling debris near exits.
Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to exit.
After the shaking stops
Expect aftershocks — remain alert and prepared to Drop, Cover, and Hold On again.
Evacuate the building only if instructed or if the structure is visibly unsafe.
Avoid elevators — use stairs if evacuation is required.
Check for hazards: fire, gas leaks, damaged electrical lines, or structural cracks.
Assist others if safe to do so.
If in a High‑Rise Building
Stay inside — do not use elevators.
Move away from windows and exterior walls.
Take cover under sturdy furniture or next to an interior wall.
Be prepared for fire alarms and sprinkler activation.
If in a Vehicle

Stay inside the vehicle with your seatbelt fastened.
Avoid stopping under trees, signs, or anything that could fall.
Once shaking stops
Proceed cautiously and avoid damaged roads.
If Outdoors
Move to an open area away from buildings, streetlights, utility poles, and trees.
Drop to the ground and protect your head and neck.
Stay in the open until the shaking stops.
